The challenge of this project was to create special edition stamps based on a fictional artist. The idea was to imagine their identity, style, and backstory to accompany it. I created an artist named Henry Takayama, a man of Japanese and Canadian parents, influenced by his Japanese heritage and his father’s career as a sea fisherman. Using some well-known Japanese iconography, I invented what is now the Bonsai Whale, the Lucky Catfish, the Red Lantern Fish, and the Ramen Jelly.
